trying to find help

Hi there,

I've read through this website as well as the others recommended, assertive patient, etc. I am in a position that I would like to particpate in the CARe or DA&O approach, but the hospital I am contacting does not participate, and said they held to no similar program. I have spoken with the patient advocate twice (at the time of the incident and now that it's over) and she has been extremely rude, defensive and not willing to listen to me (I do not understand why, I have been nice to her each time). I have also tried 2 attorneys who are not interested because I am not looking for a long trial with enough money "to make it worth it for them". I really don't want to get an attorney involved anyway, but nobody seems to be listening to me. I simply want an apology, someone to look at the case and find out what is being done to prevent this from happening again. It seems as though CARe is the solution I am looking for but what is my recourse if the hospital does not participate?

If anyone has any suggestions or would like further details about what took place, email me at tkernan99@yahoo.com or post to the discussion.

Thanks,
Tara Kernan

Re: trying to find help

Tara,

Have you tried writing a formal letter to the hospital's patient relations department? If you write down your concerns the hospital is required respond in writing, so maybe that would be helpful. You could also try calling MITSS (www.mitss.org), which is a very helpful service for anyone who has been part of an adverse medical event.

Hope this information is useful.
